Sensor

—Common—

To what extent can the sheath be bent?
Make the bent radius about 5 times the sheath external diameter. However, in the case of RTD, never bend up to 70 mm from the sheath end. This can be a cause of damage.
What is the difference between the general type and the sheath type?
The protective tube interior structure is different. Because the sheath has a shell filler in the protective tube interior, it has excellent temperature responsiveness. Also, only the sheath can be bent.
Should I select thermocouple or RTD?

Thermocouple can measure higher temperature than RTD Compared to thermocouple, RTD has a structure that stands up poorly to vibration, but its detection accuracy is high and can make minute temperature measurement.

What quality of raw material should I choose for the protective tube?
It is safe to choose a material that is the same as the container (measured object), or its equivalent.
How many devices can be connected to one sensor?
In the case of RTD, it is 1 sensor to 1 device. In the case of thermocouple, multiple devices can be connected, but it is necessary to use a compensating lead wire as the crossover wire. However, in multiple connections, you must take caution because if one device breaks down, the other devices can also malfunction.
Up to what temperature can the sleeve and terminal box withstand?
80 °C is the threshold limit value. Please install enough cooling system to prevent over-temperature.
Can I repair or alter the device?
Basically, you cannot do this but simple repair of damage, etc., in a non-metal type protective tube may be possible. Feel free to consult with us about this problem.
Can you do immediate delivery?
We have ample inventory for standard types, but special types are made to order.
Can the drip-proof type withstand use underwater?
Contact with small amounts of water drops will not cause any problem but use underwater is not possible.

—Thermocouple—

Can I use ordinary electric wire instead of compensating lead wire?
Measurement errors can arise so do not use ordinary wire. Use compensating lead wire that is equivalent to the thermocouple.

—R T D—

What is the difference between Pt100 and JPt100?

Pt100 is the current standard, while JPt100 is the old standard. With the 1989 JIS revision, the designation has been divided into two. Moreover, the output resistance values of Pt100 and JPt100 are different and are therefore incompatible.

Up to how many meters can R.T.D be extended from the connecting device?
There is no distance regulation on the sensor itself. However, depending on the specifications of the device to be connected, there is a regulation on wire resistance. For instance, in SRS10A, the regulation is up to 5Ω for every wire, and above this can be a cause for measurement errors. Also, the longer the wire, the higher the risk of receiving noise effects. Therefore, a shorter distance is deemed desirable.

—Temperature/Humidity Sensor—

Are H71, T71, and TH71 being sold?
Sales of those models have been terminated. H71A, T71A and TH71A are the successors.
Do you sell parts only?
We do not sell parts unbundled. If repair is necessary, please consult with the nearest Shimaden dealer.
Humidity exceeds 100% RH. Why?
It is possible that a humidity-sensitive element has condensed. It may return to normal when dried, but if corroded, repair or replacement may be necessary.
Output is not generated. Why?
It is possible that power voltage is not being supplied. Voltage value differs with every product, so please check the specifications.

Indicator/Controller

—Common—

How many controllers can be connected to one sensor?

Only 1 for RTD

For current output specifications, multiple connections are possible if within the load resistance of the sensor.
Do you use battery power for backup of set data?

Currently, only some recorders use it.

For controllers, FP20 and FP21 (sales terminated) use it.

The battery replacement period is about 10 years.
How do you read the alphabet displayed?
Refer to the separate table for the 7-segment alphabet display.
Is set data not deleted even if the power source is switched off?
Set data is written in EEPROM so it is not deleted even if power is turned off.
I would like to correct display errors.
Please do the correction on the PV Bias Screen.
Change in measured object is fast: I would like to slow down the display response.
When monitoring such things as pressure and flow rate whose change is remarkable, set the PV filter and you can slow down the responsiveness of display.
I would like to set alarm action.

For alarm, use event output (EV).

Use the following procedures for basic setting.

1. Set higher and lower limit action on the Event Type Screen.

2. Set alarm action to ON point on the Event Setup Value Screen.

3. Set alarm action to OFF point on the Event Action Hysteresis Setup Screen.

    (Setting of ON point deviation)

What is the difference between absolute value alarm and deviation alarm?

In absolute value alarm, the set value itself is the action point of the alarm.

In deviation alarm, target temperature + alarm set value is the action point of the alarm.

Accordingly, absolute value alarm is used when you do not want to follow a change in the target temperature, and deviation alarm is used when you want alarm value to automatically change with changes in target temperature.
What is alarm standby action?

Standby action refers to action mode in which alarm action is not executed when entering the alarm action area (only the first time alarm action area is entered).

The alarm sets off upon getting out of the alarm area once and re-entering the area again. (Beyond this, it becomes a non-standby condition.)

If you turn off the controller power, or put on standby and restart operation, it enters standby action condition as earlier described.
Display error message

Either the sensor being connected is broken or the signal of the sensor is wrong.

If the sensor signal is at a normal value, it is possible that the controller measuring range setting is wrong.
Can analog output be synchronized with control output?
Yes. Set “OUT” on the Analog Output Type Setting Screen.
Is the analog (transmission) output of the old product option function the same function as the current product analog output?
Yes, it refers to the same function. It increases or decreases the DC signal after synchronizing with current value or target value, and can be used as a process monitoring signal.
Cannot communicate at all.

Please execute read command.

If there is no response even after executing read command, please check the wiring status or communication parameter setting.
Can read communication but cannot write.

Communication mode is not set to “COM.”

In order to set communication mode from “Loc” to “COM,” set “1” to address “018C” using master (host) to enable communication.
What is the difference between RS-232C and RS-485?

RS-232C matches the PC standard so a converter is not needed and direct connection is possible. However, the communication distance limit is 15 m, and the number of devices that can be connected is only 1.

For RS-485, it is possible to connect up to 31 to the PC, and communication distance is 500 m. However, a converter is necessary to connect to PC.
Up to how many times can a parameter data rewrite be done?
The rewrite limit for EEPROM is 100,000 times.
What do “level” and “edge” mean in DI function signal detection?

The DI function is a function that starts the pre-set status by inputting non-voltage contact.

Level: Maintains function only when the DI terminal is in short circuit.

Edge: Function starts when DI terminal is in short circuit, and operation status is maintained even when opened. Released when short circuit is repeated. (Except AT release of SRS10A Series)

—Indicator—

Is there an indicator that can display 5 digits?
Yes. 5-digit display is possible with SD24 Series.

—Controller—

Is mode switch from PID control to ON-OFF control possible?
Yes. Reduce proportional band (P) parameter to the limit, then “OFF” is displayed and it becomes ON-OFF control.
Is switch to manual operation mode possible?
Yes. On the Output Monitor Screen, if you hold down the ENT key, you will switch to manual mode. Release can be done following the same procedure.
What is the “unit” indicated for each parameter in the instruction manual?
Since there are different kinds of units used, “unit” is used here as the tentative unit. If the measurement used is temperature, then it is “°C,” and if humidity, it is “% RH.”
I cannot execute auto-tuning (AT).
You cannot execute auto-tuning when on manual operation, on standby, measured value is over-scale, proportional band (P) setting is OFF, and/or key lock is ON. Release these settings and re-execute.
Is there a 2 input type controller?
Yes. With the SR23 Series, you can select 1 input, 2 input type.
Is there a controller with a 5-digit display?

Yes. With the SR23 Series, 5-digit display is possible.

If you select RTD, control at 1/1000°C is possible (0.000–30.000°C).
Should I execute auto-tuning (AT) every time I operate?

Basically, it is all right to execute it only during trial operation.

However, when control stability is poor, or when replacing load, please re-execute AT.
Decimal points are always lit on the far left of the PV display.

It is possible that standby has been set.

There is no output at all on standby mode.
I would like to invert control output characteristics.
Please switch over RA (heating, humidification) and DA (cooling, dehumidification) on the Output Characteristic Setting Screen.

Manual output is released by holding down ENT key after displaying the Output Monitor Screen.

Release standby by displaying the Standby Screen and following the instruction manual.
What is basic operation of the heater break alarm?

Heater break alarm sets off when load current is lower than set current value while control output is ON.

Moreover, this function can be loaded only on contact and SSR output.
What is heater loop alarm?

Heater loop alarm sets off when load current is higher than set current value while control output is OFF.

Moreover, this function can be loaded only on contact and SSR output.
What are the methods for changing control output type?

Control output is fixed by the time it is shipped from our factory, and can be changed after purchase at our factory.

Please ask for assistance at the nearest Shimaden dealer.

What is the proper value of PID?

We cannot show the proper value of PID.

PID value is a parameter for stable operation in accordance with the target value, and being determined by various conditions such as the object control medium, load capability, package security, it can only be derived by AT (auto-tuning) in the given usage environment.

If it becomes unstable after AT, you may either reattempt AT or fine-tune PID value based on the following information.

P (proportional action):

Set percentage (%) of control output change on measuring range.

The size of control output changes in proportion to the margin between PV value and SV value. The narrower the proportional band the greater the output change and the stronger the proportional action, and, if it becomes excessively narrow, control oscillates resulting in fluctuating ON-OFF action.

I (integral time):

This is a function to correct offset (stationary error) that arises in proportional band. If integral time is long, the corrective action is weak, and the shorter the integral time, the stronger the corrective action but as a result control can oscillate due to integrability hunting.

 D (differential time):

Forecasting change in control output, it improves control stability by inhibiting overshoot due to integration.

The longer the differential time the stronger the inhibitive action, as a result of which control can oscillate.

I want to change the position of the decimal point.

Methods differs depending on the model and input conditions.

The following are the details.

“SR23”

In the case of voltage and current input, this can freely be done by changing DP parameter. In the case of thermocouple and RTD, elimination of the rightmost digit is possible by setting the Screen No. 7-3 figure parameter.

“Models other than SR23”

In the case of voltage and current input, this can freely be done with any model.

In the case of thermocouple and RTD, change in location of decimal point is not possible.

Please select the most appropriate one from the measuring range code table.

What happens to the control output status on standby?

Minimum value in the control output range will be output.

“SR 23”

Output value on standby can be set by option using the Screen No. 6-1 BY parameter.

Moreover, this function can be loaded only on contact and SSR output.
How do you temporarily stop a program under execution?

This is possible using the hold (HLD) function.

Hold can be performed using either key operation or external control input.

Program will resume from where it stopped if you release the hold function.
How do you skip steps in a program under execution?

This is possible using advance (ADV) function.

Advance can be performed using either key operation or external control input. If you execute advance, the current step will be terminated and will be transferred forcibly to the next step.
What is guarantee soak?

This is a function for delay compensation of program. In actual operation, actual temperature may not rise according to the program due to equipment capability or security reasons.

In this case, if you pre-set guarantee soak, transfer to the next step can be done after the temperature target value is reached.
I would like to change the position of the decimal point.

Can chart speed be changed?
Generally, change through key operation is possible, but for SR102 Model, it is necessary to replace gear on the left side of the main unit interior.
What is the adaptable status regarding safety standard?
The SR106A, SR186A and SR107 Series acquired CE marking.
Are there restrictions in the input type and scaling setup of hybrid recorders?

There are no restrictions in SR106A/SR186A Models.

For SR107 Model, the input type and scaling have to be the same in the case of 1–3 ch.
Can power source ON and OFF be done?
Indoor power source switch is installed.

—Hybrid Recorder—

I do not want the channel I do not use to be printed.
Please skip the irrelevant channel and go to the channel you wish to print.
It does not print. Why?
The record head nozzle may be clogged. Please force out the ink by pressing the record head from left and right.
Printing is out of order. Or there is an abnormality in the carriage? How do I deal with this?
The cart traveling axis may be dirty. Turn off the recorder power and wipe the traveling axis with a dry cloth.
The chart end is displayed. How do I deal with this?
It shows the end of the recording chart. Replace with a new recording chart.
The ink end is displayed. How do I deal with this?

It detects lack of ink and displays this status.

Normally this is no-op, and it is necessary to clear it when replacing the record head with a new one.

Call out “ink alarm clear” using parameter, set “YES” and the alarm will be released.
I want to change input type and measuring range.
For SR107, there is no change function. When you want it changed, alteration is necessary at our factory. Please ask for assistance at the nearest Shimaden dealer.

—Analog Recorder—

The cart traveling axis may be dirty. Turn off the recorder’s power and wipe the traveling axis with a dry cloth.
Can chart speed be changed?
The standard instrument has 3 chart speeds. For speed change, check here. For speeds other than the 3 speeds, alteration at our factory is necessary. Please ask for assistance at the nearest Shimaden dealer.

Thyristor Power Regulator

—Common—

Can power adjuster and manual adjuster attached to existing equipment be diverted to a power regulator of different model?

There is compatibility between every model.

However, terminal size varies with each model, so machining the terminal may be necessary.
How do you forcibly stop operation?

For PAC18A, please assign standby to DI.

Likewise, for models that do not have DI function, please open the R2-R3 terminals. If external power adjuster is attached, please open the R2 line.
I would like to connect a magnet switch to the power regulator. Where do I connect it?
As much as possible, please install the magnet switch to the primary side of the power regulator. If you attach it to the secondary side, please do not open it while electricity is turned on. It can be a cause of malfunction or damage.
The rapid fuse is broken. What could be the reason?

A cause on the load side may be possible.

If the load is grounded, excessive current flows, so it is necessary to check the load insulation.

Also, if the load resistance falls remarkably, the rapid fuse becomes easily broken.
I heard that there are different types of heaters, and selection of power regulators differs with every heater. What is the heater type?

The raw material of the heater differs with use.

For raw material, there is fixed resistance type with low temperature coefficient, and there is variable resistance type with high temperature coefficient.

A fixed resistance heater can be operated using voltage control, but a variable resistance heater has to be operated using electric current or power control.
What are the conditions under which I can use a transformer as a load?

When using a transformer as load, please have it designed so that the transformer flux density is less than 0.8T (tesla).

In using a regular transformer, please use 70% of the rated power or below. Please make sure not to open the secondary side during operation.
In connecting the load, how much reserve power should there be for the power regulator specifications?

Since operable power is about 95% of the product specification, when connecting a load directly, it is safe to assume a maximum of 95%.

When connecting inductive load of transformer and others, the maximum is 70%.

However, when selecting a power feedback specification, a capacity of twice the load capacity is necessary.
Using two external power adjusters, I would like to switch between automatic control and manual control.

Depending on the model, the connection method varies.

Please refer to this connection diagram.
I would like to know about the power adjusting function through external volume.
While some are unusable depending on the model, in the power regulator, there are different power adjusting functions.

“External Power Adjusting Function Volume”

This is an adjuster that changes the output ramp vis-a-vis the control input.

“Base Power Volume”

This is used if you want output to remain even if control input is 0%.

“High and Low Power Volume”

This is an adjuster used to determine output value on ON or OFF when operating control input by contact.

“Manual Power Volume”

This is used when operating output using only an adjuster without control input signal.
